We made it into the Magazine RV TIMES.....

“A Truly Amazing RV Park in BC:

Sheila, thank you for such a great magazine. It is truly amazing how things work out in the end: on a recent trip to Prince Rupert, after spending two nights at Joy’s RV Park in Wells, we headed to Smithers to spend third nights there. We arrived in Smithers only to find that half of the RV’ers from the rest of America had also decided to overnight in Smithers . . . no room at the Inn!

After much grumbling and grousing, on my part, Phyllis (my lovely wife) suggested that we backtrack to Telkwa, where we had passed an RV Park. OK, if we must! Fort Telkwa RV Park, remember this name and don’t pass it by as I did in my rush to get to Smithers. Here’s why.

The park is only about five miles east of Smithers and is owned and operated by Gary and Debbie Haywood. This park is the BEST! The sites are easy to get into with any size of RV, level sites, full service, and get this: a sign that says “Please use our free pressure washer!” Most parks have signs telling you not to wash your unit. But that’s not all: also free clean showers, and a sauna!

Do you think I am sold? You betcha! We stayed two nights on the way up and one on the return trip. Not only were all of the RVs clean, I didn’t see one unit come in that did not wash before parking. The showers and the laundry facilities were all very clean and well maintained. Oh, I forgot to mention that every site has two sewage hookups, so no matter where your tanks are located, front or rear, it is just so easy.

My comment to Debbie Haywood: “Nice to see a park layout done by experienced RVers.” She replied: “We have never been RVers ourselves, we just listened to our customers’ suggestions!” Listen they did and then followed the suggestions!

People like this deserve our support. Their physical address is 11939 Highway 16, 12 kms east of Smithers. Their phone number is 250-846-5012 and their e-mail address is They welcome groups and caravans too. If you are a fisherman, bring along your boat and use their private launch into the Bulkley.

"Thank you for having such a great park. Lots of space for the RV, clean grounds, lots of amenities and the washrooms were A-1." - June 2010, Pender Island, BC.
